The fictional narrator from the Italian author Tommaso Landolfi's comic brief story "Gogol's spouse" describes many visits to the subject of his biography, Nikolai Gogol. At that renowned nineteenth century Russian author's home, the long run biographer finds Gogol, referred to all over as Nikolai Vassilevitch (his personalized title and patronymic
